Ana Felipe is an artist specialising in the plastic arts and qualified in the specialism of Advanced Diploma in Art and Ceramics from the College of Higher Education in Art and Design of Valencia where she trained with Enrique Mestre. She has an extensive background in other plastic arts related to volume, painting, photography and engraving. Upon completing her studies in Valencia, Ana attended a seminar with David Leach and obtained a grant for "seminars on studies in ceramics” at Sargadelos (Lugo province) where she participated in a project led by Arcadio Blasco, and then moved to Vizcaya where she stayed from 1990 to 99. She began her training in engraving techniques as part of the Basque artists’ collective ‘Antxesaleak’, then went on to take courses in Bilbao with the Goya-Fuendetodos Foundation and at the Zaragoza College of Higher Education in Art and Design. She currently lives and works in house/studio (with spaces dedicated to the disciplines of ceramics, engraving and photography) in Villanueva de Huerva (Zaragoza), a town situated between Muel, a town with a centuries-old tradition in ceramics, and Fuendetodos, the birthplace of Goya, a hub of activity in graphic art and design. She has taken part in numerous group and individual exhibitions both in Spain and abroad (France, Germany, Morocco, Colombia, the US, Japan). Having no interest in entering competitions, instead she has focused on two main activities: her own personal and creative work in her studio on the one hand, alternating this with research and teaching on the other; she has taught in a number of centres including the Antxesaleak Professional Artists Association (Vizcaya), The Professional Association of Ceramicists of Cantabria, led workshops for the " Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation " in Palma de Mallorca, and taught at the University of the Tolima (Colombia). She has also led the Ceramics School Workshop sponsored by the Local Government of Zaragoza in Muel, where she teaches many courses and has also set up the “Library of Ceramic samples; formulation, materials, ceramic glazing and finishings" at the Zaragoza College of Higher Education in Art and Design, in the master "Ceramics, art and function" with the sculpture department of Fine Arts of the University of the Basque Country. She worked as workshop leader and taught the “Antonio Saura” Engraving Workshop for the Goya-Fuendetodos Foundation and has designed “step-by-step” courses for Spanish and international publishers such as RBA, Altaya, Orbis, Planeta de Agostini, Collector, etc. Ana Felipe’s passion for research and teaching has led her to carry out work to revive a number of ceramic decorative techniques and to conduct research on the possibilities and application in contemporary plastic arts of techniques such as “Luster” and glazes from the Arabic tradition, Raku firing, brushstroke decoration and the methods of formulation and study of ceramic glazing.
