Merrill Shatzman’s (b.1956) relief prints meld abstract, readable letterforms and symbols extracted from Western, Middle Eastern, Far Eastern, Mesoamerican and ancient writing systems, calligraphy, charts and maps. By continually reconstructing and altering her prints she reinterprets her complex forms into novel permutations that are visually, technically, and conceptually connected and related.
