Professor Timothy Emlyn Jones RE was educated at the Royal College of Art, London, and the heart of his art practice is experiment. He developed the idea of art as a process of enquiry in 1979, and he regards printmaking as an extension of drawing. For him, the appeal of printmaking is in the opportunities for visualisation and mark making not available by any other means. He was one of the first artists to explore the potential of photocopiers with what he called xerographs, the first of which he exhibited in ‘Mult Read more...i-Media’ at the Museum of Modern Art, Sao Paulo in 1976, and at the ‘British International Print Biennale’ at Bradford, UK in 1984. He has held solo exhibitions across Europe and has taken part in group exhibitions in many parts of the world, including Documenta. He has held professorships in Ireland, the UK and China, and has been a visiting artist at MIT, Bauhaus Universitat, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and CAVA Beijing, amongst others. He is a member of the European Cultural Parliament and is the Honorary Secretary of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers. He lives on the west coast of Ireland.
