Flora Mclachlan

Wales
Biography:

I make my etchings in a wild place on the edge of a moor in the Preseli hills in Wales, UK. I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE) based in London, and I am a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy. I have an MA in Fine Art from Aberystwyth School of Art, 2022. In 2022 I was shortlisted for the prestigious Boodle Hatfield Print Prize 2023 at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. Other prizes include the Norman Ackroyd Prize for Etching at the Impressions Printmaking Biennial in Ireland, 2019, and Read more... First Prize in the Remarque International Print Prize 2019 in Albuquerque, USA. I have work in the Ashmolean Museum and British Museum Collections. To make my etchings, I enjoy working with chance marks, to dream my images into being. I gather images from books, my everyday life and my memory and bind them into a tentative and poetic personal mythology that weaves me to the world and to other people. I feel that through the alchemical portals of etching, I can enter different magical worlds.
