Tomasz Matczak was born in 1977 in Łódź, Poland. Between 1997 - 2002 he studied at the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. In 2003 he got his diploma at the Studio of Lithographic Techniques at the same academy. Since 2004 employed at his alma mater, currently as Assistant Professor at the Lithographic Techniques Studio run by Professor Witold Warzywoda. In 2014 he received the degree of doctor of art (PhD). He conducts research on extending the possibilities of planographic print, among others on the use Read more... of polyester plates or on the ferrography technique using iron plates and on the non-toxic methods of creating lithographic matrices. He participated in numerous scientific conferences dedicated to lithography, among others, in the Leon Wyczółkowski Museum in Bydgoszcz (2015), at the University of Rzeszów (2015 and 2016), at Marie Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin (2018). He also conducted printmaking workshops as visiting professor within the Erasmus plus programme at the Academy in Orihuela in Spain (May 2016) and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Foggia in Italy (May 2017) and in June 2018 he presented the results of his reserach ta the Society of Northern Alberta Print-Artists (SNAP) in Edmonton in Canada. In 2019 he conducted a workshop of experimental lithography at the Proyecto Ace Foundation in Buenos Aires. Since 2013 teacher of the International Summer Courses PATA held in Łódź, first as an assistant and since 2016 running his course entitled “Graphic Diversity. Relief print, intaglio and lithography”. He specializes in lithography, digital print, painting, photography and graphic design. He has had 13 individual exhibitions in Poland, The Netherlands, Canada and Argentina. He participated in over 100 national and international group exhibitions of printmaking in Poland and abroad, among others in Urbino, Kochi, Sarcelles-Val, Varna, Yokosuka, Edmonton, Ostrava and Vernon.
