Biography:

The art of Titia Ballot, a ninth generation descendant of French Huguenot refugees, is inspired by the rich diversity of South African cultures and beliefs. In Genesis IV and VI, the story of creation as told in the holy books of Christianity, Islam and Judaism, she highlights the aspirations to a shared heritage and reconciliation. She has twice been granted residencies at the Frans Masereel Centre for Printmaking in Kasterlee, Belgium. In 2008 she received a Medal of Honour for Visual Arts from the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns. Her work is represented in various private and public collections in South Africa and abroad. She lives in Hermanus, a village near Cape Town.
